tures were but ill adapted, from their mode of construc -

tion, to withstand the stroke of typhoon seas,
sequently the injury they sustained is not a matter of
surprise. These walle were mostly located along the sea
margin of Mongkoktaui, and were thus open to the same
tea
action as will fall upon the proposed sheltering Break
water, although, in consequence of the walls being in
shallow water, the wave stroke on the contemplated
Breakwater will be of greater intensity.
